Joanne hails from Portland, Oregon, and she comes to Globe Aware with extensive travel experience in Asia and Latin America, and her past studies concentrated in Latin American Arts and Spanish. While studying and living abroad, Joanne volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, but her outreach activities are widespread, from coordinating special events for the Latin American Museum of Art (and others), to InBioparque volunteer work, led America Reads Program with a focus on SPanish ESL programs, bilingual art summer camps, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation work, and was an active member as a young teen at AKT_NOW (Active Kind Teens Nurturing Our World).

Joanne is trained as a  lifeguard to anticipate, recognize and manage emergencies and additionally certified in CPR, AR and first aid. She has worked with the Portland Parks and Recreation in crowd control management with diverse groups of people to enforce safety.  She drafted Students Guide to Costa Rica, a guide specifically written for incoming study abroad students at Linfield College, where she also served as International Programs Office campus liaison.  And she is fluent in English and Spanish. We're delighted to have Joanne as a Volunteer Coordinator!
