Happy Spring Break!

IMG_1187We want to wish you and your family a happy and safe spring break. This is a great time of year to get you and your family involved in volunteering! Many of our parent volunteers are unsure about bringing their kids on volunteer trips. We think it’s not only a great opportunity to help those in need, but also for some quality family time with many intangible benefits for your kids, such as:

  • Provides new learning experiences and development of new skills for both children and adults
  • Helps families learn about social issues and provides a new perspective on the world
  • Provides positive role models and passes on family values to children, while giving them a greater world perspective
If children start volunteering at a younger age then they’re more likely to continue volunteering as they get older. It’s a win-win for everyone!

Have you heard?
We have opened a new program in SOUTH AFRICA!

cape10 2Volunteers will be working in the Hout Bay Township just outside of Cape Town. This area was intended to be home to some 2,000 people; today it is populated by more than 60,000!

For some low income families, they choose to continue to live in the Hout Bay shacks because electricity and water are provided for free and there is no rent or mortgage to pay.

One of our goals with our volunteer program in South Africa is to help rebuild shacks that have been lost due to fires (which are a common problem), replacing simple roofing, installing concrete flooring and more. There are a lot of improvement opportunities to be done in South Africa and we are excited we are part of that change.
