Giving Guatemala Fundraising Letter

In ________ of 2015, I will join a group of volunteers to Guatemala on a mission to help preserve the natural beauty of Guatemala, where a huge population growth and migration have put a strain on resources all over the country.
I will be immersed in the community near Lake Peten Itza which is within a biological rain forest reserve. The community is seeking volunteers like myself to help institute programs that will defend the natural and cultural wealth that has given so much life to Guatemala as well as addressing the living and education standards. I will be a part of a team of volunteers and Guatemalans that will facilitate in the building of a cement floor for a family, working with children at a local community library, teaching a class to students in Grades 7, 8 and 9 in a technical institute in the village for teens without financial resources and various cultural preservation activities. The strategy is to encourage local inhabitants to practice efficient stewardship over the remaining forests. In this way, the local inhabitants can prosper by using the local environment to their economic advantage in a more sustainable way.
The projects I will be working on centers around education and facility improvement. This type of activity is incredibly important as Guatemala has some of the lowest literacy rates in the world. Many locals are suffering numerous health issues due to their living conditions, poor sanitation and even limited access to clean water, which are all daily challenges.
