COVID PROTOCOLS AND TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

Costa Rica  updated 02/23/2022

Before flying to Costa Rica: 

Travelers are not required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result when traveling to Costa Rica. 

Mandatory travel insurance for unvaccinated travelers

Unvaccinated travelers are required to have proof of international travel insurance or travel insurance purchased in Costa Rica. Purchase insurance here: https://www.visitcostarica.com/en/costa-rica/planning-your-trip/entry-requirements  Permanent or temporary residents of Costa Rica must demonstrate their Costa Rican social security insurance is up to date. For international insurance policies, tourists must request a certification from their insurance company, issued in English or Spanish, verifying at least the following 3 conditions:

  • Effectiveness of the policy during the visit to Costa Rica;
  • Guaranteed coverage of medical expenses in the event of becoming ill with COVID-19 while in Costa Rica, for at least USD $50,000;
  • Includes minimum coverage of USD $2,000 for lodging expenses issued as a result of the pandemic.

Details and exemptions

This requirement does not apply to:

  • Travelers under the age of 18;
  • Costa Rican citizens.

Mandatory proof of vaccination

Fully vaccinated travelers must have proof that they have been fully vaccinated with any of the following vaccines: Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Sinovac, Sinopharm, and Covaxin. Travelers must have completed the final dose of the vaccine at least 14 days before their departure to Costa Rica.

This requirement does not apply to:

  • Travelers aged 18 years and younger

Mandatory health pass for public activity

Travelers may be required to present proof of vaccination before checking in to most hotels, restaurants, bars, casinos, shops, museums, art and dance academies, gymnasiums, resorts, and adventure tourism that operate at full capacity. The health pass should be presented as valid proof of vaccination via QR code or printed vaccination certificate from the country of origin. Vaccines accepted are Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Janssen, Sinovac, Sinopharm, and Covaxin. Essential services such as supermarkets and pharmacies will not require proof of vaccination.

Details and exemptions

This requirement does not apply to:

  • Travelers under the age of 12;
  • Travelers who have a medical condition (duly accredited), making it impossible to apply any vaccine approved by the Ministry of Health of Costa Rica.

Mandatory health declaration form

Travelers are required to fill out an Epidemiological Health Pass Form a maximum of 72 hours before arrival in Costa Rica. An individual form must be completed for every person, including minors.

Returning to USA:

Now the USA requires returning travelers to have a negative covid test done within 24 hours. We recommend you bring an approved self-test to administer, and possibly a backup in case you get a false positive. 

Details and exemptions

This requirement does not apply to:

  • Travelers under the age of 2;
  • Travelers who have recovered from COVID-19. These travelers must show proof of a positive viral test from the preceding 90 days and a letter from their healthcare provider or public health official stating they are cleared to end isolation.

Mandatory travel attestation form

Travelers must complete a travel attestation form before arrival. This form will be provided by the airline. Airlines may let you complete your attestation electronically. However, you may still want to keep a printed copy as a precaution. 


Guatemala updated 02/23/2022

Before flying to Guatemala: 

All travelers aged 10 years and older must have a negative COVID-19 (PCR or antigen) test result. The test must be taken a maximum of 3 days before arrival in Guatemala. COVID-19 PCR tests may be from a saliva sample, but not antigen tests. The test results must be analyzed at a laboratory.

Details and exemptions

This requirement does not apply to:

  • Travelers under the age of 10;
  • Travelers with a document proof of recovery from COVID-19 that occurred a maximum of 3 months before travel;
  • Fully vaccinated Guatemalan citizens and residents with valid proof of vaccination. These travelers should check with their airline for exemption.

Mandatory proof of vaccination

Vaccinated travelers must have proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19.  Travelers must have received all doses required of the vaccine at least 14 days before arrival.

Puerto Rico  updated as of 02/23/2022

Before flying to Puerto Rico:

No proof of negative pre-departure COVID-19 test required for vaccinated travelers.

Proof of negative pre-departure COVID-19 test results for unvaccinated travelers

Unvaccinated travelers arriving from the United States must have a negative COVID-19 PCR molecular or antigen test result. The test must be taken a maximum of 48 hours before arrival in Puerto Rico. 

Details and exemptions

This requirement does not apply to:

  • Fully vaccinated travelers;
  • Travelers under the age of 2;
  • Unvaccinated travelers who travel without negative COVID-19 test results will be fined USD $300.00, however, this fine will be waived upon evidence of a negative test performed a maximum of 48 hours of arrival.

Mandatory proof of vaccination

Fully vaccinated travelers entering on domestic flights must upload a vaccination card to the Puerto Rico Health Department’s online portal. Travelers will need an Airport Exit Confirmation number and QR Code, which travelers will automatically receive when uploading their vaccination card to the Puerto Rico Health Department’s online portal. Only FDA-approved vaccinations will be accepted. These include Pfizer-BioNTech, Modern, and Janssen/Johnson & Johnson. Travelers unable to present a valid certificate may be required to comply with rules for unvaccinated travelers.

Mandatory health pass for residing in accommodations and indoor activity 

All travelers staying 1 night or more at any accommodation, as well as travelers wanting to enjoy indoor establishments where food and beverages are prepared and served, are required to have proof of being fully vaccinated or a valid COVID-19 test result.  Travelers attending mass events (both indoors and outdoors taking place at theaters, amphitheaters, coliseums, stadiums, and convention centers) will be required to present proof of vaccination with an FDA or WHO-approved vaccine and also a negative COVID test taken in the 48 hours prior to the event. Vaccinated travelers must be fully vaccinated with vaccines authorized by the FDA. Travelers without proof of vaccination must have a negative COVID-19 test result. The test can be a PCR test or an Antigen test taken a maximum of 48 hours before check-in at their accommodation or upon entry of an indoor food and beverage establishment. Travelers staying longer than 1 week, must continue to present negative COVID-19 PCR test results on a weekly basis. Travelers who are not vaccinated due to medical or religious reasons must provide proper documentation confirming this and are still required to present negative tests on a weekly basis.

  • Travelers under the age of 5 are not allowed to attend large-scale events, even with negative COVID-19 test results, except when permitted by the Department of Health.
  • Travelers aged between 5-11 years are allowed to attend large indoor events by providing proof of vaccination and negative COVID-19 test results taken a maximum of 48 hours prior to the event.

Mandatory travel declaration form

Travelers are required to complete a travel declaration form before departure to Puerto Rico. Travelers will need an Airport Exit Confirmation number and QR Code, which travelers will automatically receive when uploading their documentation. https://1link.travelsafe.pr.gov/

Departure:

Travelers from Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands, United States Minor Outlying Islands are recommended to check the COVID-19 testing requirements for the specific state they are traveling to. There is no national requirement for COVID-19 testing, but some states have introduced strict requirements for all visitors, including domestic travelers.


Peru updated 02/22/2022

Arrival:

Travelers who are not fully vaccinated must have a negative COVID-19 molecular test result issued a maximum of 72 hours before boarding. Travelers with valid proof of being fully vaccinated are not required to have a negative COVID-19 test result before traveling to Peru.

Mandatory proof of vaccination

Vaccinated travelers, including nationals and residents, must have proof of having received all the vaccine doses required at least 14 days before traveling to Peru. Proof of vaccination is also required for travelers to engage in domestic travel and public activity. More information is available on our health pass recommendation.

Mandatory health declaration form

Travelers are required to submit a health declaration form online a maximum of 72 hours before departure to Peru. Travelers must present the QR code from the online form either digitally or printed. https://djsaludviajero.minsa.gob.pe/dj-salud/ 

Mandatory health pass for domestic travel and public activity

Travelers on domestic flights, or using inter-provincial land transportation and those entering some indoor public spaces must have valid proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 molecular test result. The test result must be issued a maximum of 48 hours before boarding. For the health pass, travelers 40 years and older must have proof of having received their vaccine booster shot or present a negative molecular test with a result date no older than 48 hours before boarding.

Cuba updated 01/06/2022

Arrival:

Travelers will be randomly selected to take a COVID-19 PCR test on arrival in Cuba.

Unvaccinated travelers must have proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test result. The test must be taken at an accredited testing center a maximum of 72 hours before departure to Cuba.

Details and exemptions

This requirement does not apply to:

-Travelers under the age of 12;

-Fully vaccinated travelers with valid proof of 2 vaccine doses, either printed or as a digital copy.

Visitor visa:

To visit Cuba for Tourism, you require a tourist card, sometimes called a tourist visa. Check if your tour operators or airline provide a tourist card prior to arriving in Cuba. If no tourist card is provided, you can apply at the nearest Cuban consulate or embassy.

Mandatory health insurance

Travelers are required to have valid health insurance with COVID-19 coverage. If this is not possible, then they have to buy Cuban medical insurance coverage at the airport upon arrival.Details and exemptions

Mandatory health declaration form before arrival

Travelers must fill out a health questionnaire form. They can fill out an electronic form or a paper form. The paper form can be found in the international arrivals area at the airport. Travelers must fill out a health questionnaire form before departing from Mexico. They can fill out an electronic form or a paper form. The paper form can be found in the international arrivals area at the airport. South Africa updated 01/06/2022

Arrival:

Travelers must have a negative COVID-19 test result recognized by the World Health Organisation. The test must be taken a maximum of 72 hours before departure to South Africa.

Details and exemptions:

Children or persons with disabilities may be exempted from COVID-19 testing if testing will prove to be a challenge. Please check the source for more details.

Kenya updated 02/17/2022

Upon arrival to Kenya:

Entry restricted for unvaccinated travelers

Unvaccinated travelers are not allowed to enter Kenya.

Travelers, including those in transit, must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test result. The test must be taken a maximum of 72 hours before departure to Kenya. The results must be uploaded to the Global Haven platform prior to boarding their flight to Kenya. https://globalhaven.org/

COVID-19 test may be required on arrival

Travelers may be required to undergo a COVID-19 antigen RDT test on arrival. 

Mandatory proof of vaccination

Travelers must have a COVID-19 vaccination certificate showing that they were fully vaccinated. Travelers must upload their vaccination certificates to the Global Haven platform prior to boarding their flight to Kenya. https://globalhaven.org/

East African visitor visa

To visit Kenya for Business or Tourism, you require a visa. An eVisa is the fastest and easiest way of obtaining a visa as you can apply and supporting documents online. If approved, you'll receive your eVisa confirmation electronically. When you arrive at immigration, you will be asked for your passport and eVisa to ensure you have proper documentation..

Mandatory symptom tracing app

Travelers must submit daily health information to the Jitenge MoH Kenya platform for 14 consecutive days. https://ears.health.go.ke/airline_registration/

Malawi updated 01/06/2022

Arrival:

Travelers must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test result from a test taken a maximum of 72 hours before arrival in Malawi. Travelers can show proof via Trusted Travel Africa's CDC COVID-19 digital certificate. Otherwise, they can register with Global Haven. All COVID-19 test certificates must be in English or translated into English. Any certificate that is not in English will be considered invalid and the traveler will be tested at their own cost and will be required to self-quarantine until the results of a new test are known. https://globalhaven.org/

Mandatory proof of vaccination

Travelers are required to have a valid electronic COVID-19 full vaccination certificate to enter Malawi. Arriving travelers unable to show an electronic vaccination certificate at the point of entry shall be expected to access COVID-19 vaccines for free at the point of entry before being allowed to enter or re-enter Malawi. Travelers unable to produce a valid vaccination certificate and who refuse to access the vaccines offered at the point of entry will be required to undergo institutional quarantine for 10 days at their cost.

Mandatory quarantine for unvaccinated travelers

Travelers unable to produce a valid vaccination certificate and who refuse to access the vaccines offered at the point of entry will be required to undergo institutional quarantine for 10 days at their cost. At this time, we do not have further information on the cost or location of the institutional quarantine. Travelers will not have a choice in where they are placed.

Ghana 

Arrival:

Travelers must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test result. The test must be taken from a Trusted Travel accredited laboratory a maximum of 72 hours before departure. Travelers must validate their test results through the African Union Trusted Travel or the UNDP Global Haven systems. This requirement does not apply to: -Travelers under the age of 5; -Travelers who are departing and returning to Ghana for a maximum of 1 week. These travelers must take a test on arrival.

All travelers are required to complete a health declaration form before arrival in Ghana.

Departure:

As of November 8th, the USA requires returning unvaccinated travelers to have a negative covid test done within 24 hours. If this applies to you, we recommend you bring an approved self-test to administer, and possibly a backup in case you get a false positive. Cambodia

Mandatory quarantine for unvaccinated for 14 days and vaccinated for 3 days 


Thailand – updated 01/10/2022

Arrival:

Travelers must have a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result. The result must be issued a maximum of 72 hours before departure to Thailand. 

Details and exemptions

This requirement does not apply to:

-Travelers under the age of 6 accompanied by parents with a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result within 72 hours before traveling;

-Thai nationals who travel with a Thai passport as long as they do not enter the Sandbox Program.

Mandatory COVID-19 test on arrival

Travelers must take a COVID-19 RT-PCR test on arrival and wait at their hotel room for the test results. Travelers under the age of 6 are required to receive a COVID-19 saliva test.

Mandatory 10-day quarantine for unvaccinated travelers

Unvaccinated travelers arriving by air must quarantine for 10 days on arrival under the Alternative Quarantine programme. Travelers will be required to undergo 2 COVID-19 RT-PCR tests during their quarantine, the first on arrival and the second on days 8 or 9.

This requirement does not apply to:

-Fully vaccinated travelers under the Phuket Sandbox programme

Unvaccinated travelers arriving by land must quarantine for 14 days on arrival. Travelers will be required to undergo 2 COVID-19 RT-PCR tests during their quarantine, the first on arrival and the second on days 12-13.

Mandatory COVID-19 test after arrival for unvaccinated travelers

Unvaccinated travelers must take additional COVID-19 RT-PCR tests after their arrival. Once all tests are negative, they can freely travel domestically within Thailand.

Travelers arriving by air are required to be quarantined for 10 days, they will be required to take their test on days 8-9 before ending the quarantine.

Mandatory accommodation booking for unvaccinated travelers

Unvaccinated travelers from the United States arriving by air or sea must have booked and paid for a 10-day stay at an approved Alternative Quarantine (AQ) accommodation. Travelers arriving by land must have booked and paid for a 14-day stay at an approved AQ accommodation.

Mandatory health insurance

Travelers are required to provide proof of medical insurance with minimum coverage of USD 50,000 covering COVID-19 treatment in Thailand. 

The policy should include in-patient hospitalization and cover the whole period of stay in Thailand.

Mandatory Thailand Pass registration form

Effective November 1st, 2021, Thailand has replaced the Certificate of Entry (COE) with the Thailand Pass. Travelers with an approved Certificate of Entry before November 1st, 2021, can use their COE to enter Thailand. Travelers with a pre-approved COE will need to submit the rest of the required documents by November 7th, 2021. Travelers without a pre-approved COE by November 1st, 2021, will need to apply for a Thailand Pass.

Mandatory testing and quarantine

Travelers whose test on arrival is negative are required to self-quarantine for 7 days. On day 8 they must be tested again and if the result is negative they can end quarantine and must monitor their health for a further 7 days. Travelers are required to upload the results of the day 8 COVID-19 RT-PCR test to the Air Suvidha portal. Travelers who test positive to the COVID-19 test on arrival will be isolated in an institutional facility. Some Indian regions have their own specific quarantine requirements. To visit India for Tourism, you require a visa. An eVisa is the fastest and easiest way of obtaining an India visa as you can submit an application and supporting documents online. Mandatory health declaration form

Travelers are required to complete an Air Suvidha self-declaration form a maximum of 72 hours before departing to India. They must upload their negative test results and a declaration of test results authenticity. This form can be completed online and travelers will receive an updated application document via email. They are required to show this document to immigration on arrival in India.

Travelers can apply for an exemption from presenting a negative test result only in case of death in the family and they must apply in the portal at least 72 hours before boarding.

Mandatory quarantine for unvaccinated travelers

Unvaccinated travelers, including Romanian citizens, arriving from the United States without negative pre-travel COVID-19 RT-PCR test results are required to quarantine at home for 14 days and declare their address of residence in Romania. Travelers can reduce their quarantine period to 10 days by showing valid negative pre-travel COVID-19 RT-PCR results from a test taken a maximum of 48 hours before arrival.

-Travelers under the age of 12;

-Travelers with a valid vaccination certificate;

-Travelers with proof of COVID-19 recovery issued in the last 180 days;

-Travelers between the age of 12–16 years, who present a negative COVID-19 test certificate;

Health pass may be required for indoor activities

Travelers are required to have European Union Digital COVID Certificate or Romanian-issued “Digital Green Certificate/Green Pass” to access many public locations and to participate in certain activities such as indoor or outdoor seated dining at restaurants, access to shopping malls, museums, exhibitions, cultural sites, non-essential stores, swimming pools, gyms, and other venues. The Green Pass is not required for locations that provide essential services, such as food stores, pharmacies with direct access, or religious services.

Mandatory proof of vaccination

Travelers are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 if 2 weeks have passed since their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine. The US government currently accepts vaccines approved or authorized for emergency use by the U.S. FDA and the WHO. Vaccines accepted are Pfizer-BioNTech (e.g., COMIRNATY, Tozinameran), AstraZeneca-Oxford (e.g., Covishield, Vaxzevria), Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), Moderna, Sinopharm BIBP, Covaxin, Sinovac-CoronaVac, and Novavax/Covovax.  Travelers unable to present a valid certificate may be required to comply with rules for unvaccinated travelers.

Any combination of 2 doses of an FDA approved/authorized or WHO emergency use listed COVID-19 2-dose series are accepted. The second dose in a 2-dose heterologous series must have been received no earlier than 17 days (21 days with a 4 day grace period) after the first dose.
