Join us for a live cooking class from Cape Town, South Africa with chef Saofila, to learn how to prepare samosas and chile bites.
Join us in making this delicious traditional Cape Malay appetizer with friend and chef, Saofila, live from her kitchen in the colorful and historic Bo-Kaap neighborhood of Cape Town, South Africa. While samosas originated from India and Southeast Asia, South Africa has a unique take on them as well, blending the traditions and influences from cultures around the world that make it unique to area. There will be ample time to learn about the volunteer work Globe Aware participates in here and find out how you can join us in person on a volunteer vacation.
Ingredients needed:
- 1 Onion
- Pre-cooked Chicken (optional) A vegetarian a great option is potato; also pre-cooked.
- Fresh Spinach
- 1 can of Corn
- 1 package of feta cheese
- Spices (lemon and herb; Portuguese; any savory spice will do)
- 1 package of samosa pastry dough (filo may be used as a substitute)
- Cooking oil
- 1 cup of chickpea flour
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Salt
- Spices (Tumeric for color, curry masala, and chile powder)
- Water
- Frying pan
Time offered: Every day at 12:00 PM CST
Duration: 50 Minutes, unless otherwise noted
Group Size: up to 10 participants, defined as computers logged into the experience
