The Glory of Ghana
Conservation & Sustainability Fundraising Letter

As friends of mine, and being the good people that you are - I'd like your help with something!
In the coming year, I will join a group of volunteers going to Africa on a mission to help improve living standards in Jasikan, Ghana. Jasikan itself is a safe town, enveloped by a lush, mountainous surrounding area, and well-known for a lively and huge open market that attracts people from all over Ghana and Togo. Despite the natural beauty, Jasikan and surrounding communities are facing a variety of challenges ranging from lack of clean water in rural areas to a workforce untrained in the use of modern tools.
Through a program called Globe Aware, I'll help by volunteering my time, effort and money work with a locally organized group but with projects in numerous surrounding villages. Projects are in one of two areas: the first is supporting rural communities through a variety of objectives and second are activities related to global education and intercultural learning.
We might also have the opportunity to help with the construction of wells or water systems which can save lives in the dry season, or build libraries or internet training centers. The volunteers and I will also help with teaching English, which is so valuable learning from a native English speaker.
By making a pledge on my behalf, you are supporting the development of these children toward future independence, and contributing to a greater world of understanding and awareness. While I'll be personally paying for travel to Ghana and other incurred costs, there is a $_____ program cost. Laos - The Path Less Taken Fundraising Letter
Dear _________,
In the coming year, I will join a group of volunteers to Laos on a mission to help a struggling community to achieve sustainability. The community projects we will be working on are quite varied, from helping local children to infrastructure repairs that are greatly needed.
The project site will be in the wonderful area of Luang Prabang, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its charming French-colonial architecture. Unfortunately, Laos has the dubious honor of being the most heavily bombed nation in history because American fighters used it as a dumping ground for explosives during the Vietnam War. While landmines have been cleared from all major tourist areas, and the areas where Globe Aware works, thousands of Lao people are maimed and killed every year by the tons of unexploded ordinance still not cleared from the countryside. We have a variety of work projects that we contribute our time to, depending on their immediate need. We have the opportunity to work at a government orphanage, making improvements to the school infrastructure and improving/maintaining general repairs to doors, windows and pipes used in buildings.

Cambodia Rediscovered: Conservation & Sustainability

In the coming year, I will join a group of volunteers to Cambodia on a mission to help a struggling community to achieve sustainability. The community projects we will be working on are quite varied, from teaching basic English, building wheelchairs for landmine victims, and several other community self-help projects such as teaching basic 1st Aid.
I will be volunteering my time at a local English School in Siem Reap. Being a native English speaker has a positive impact for the young Cambodian children because they otherwise have very little contact with native English speakers. Along with teaching, I will work with the locals in constructing chicken coops for the families. Chickens are a great source of protein and any surplus of eggs could be used for profit for the struggling families. The wheelchair project will be possible based on availability of parts and in accordance with shipping and customs regulations.

The Road Less Traveled Brazilian Village Experience

In the coming year, I will join a group of volunteers to Brazil on a mission to help improve and expand the living conditions of villages in Salvador, Brazil. This is a secluded village about one hour north of the region's capital. They have limited schooling, medicines, housing and so on for their children and people. Through a program called Globe Aware, I'll help by volunteering my time, effort and money to build and aid in the village school, with seasonal harvest, tending the nursery, and other community projects that arise. Currently, they are building a community center and garden, teaching basic first aid, English, and other basics.

Care for Cusco: Heart of the Inca Empire Fundraising Letter

In the coming year, I will join a group of volunteers to Peru on a mission to help improve and expand the capacity of a facility in Cusco for really needy children. Parents of these needy children face difficult choices: watch their kids live on the fringe of society, without sufficient food, shelter or basic medicines; relinquish them to institutions that can feed and house them; or abandon them when their own lives end or become too burdensome. The children's home where I will be volunteering clothes, houses and educates the children to be happy, productive members of society. As a volunteer, I will engage in a variety of activities, such as: helping them with their studies, training them on computers, teaching them dance, working with them on handicrafts and artwork and playing games with them. In addition, I will help in the community elementary school or help with painting, cleaning, or repair in the children’s home, and most importantly provide the children with desperately needed one-on-one attention.

Peru Road Less Traveled Andean Village Experience Fundraising Letter

This is a secluded village about two hours north of Lima. They make their communal living by farming the terraced land of the surrounding mountains. They have limited schooling, medicines, housing and so on for their children and people. Through a program called Globe Aware, I'll help by volunteering my time, effort and money to build and aid in the village school, with seasonal harvest, tending the nursery, and other projects that arise. Currently, they're building and converting stoves to Lorena stoves.

Costa Rica Orosi Valley

In the coming year, I will join a group of volunteers to Costa Rica on a mission to help preserve the natural beauty of the Orosi Valley, where rapid urbanization has already caused serious problems in the rainforest ecosystem.
I will be immersed in the community of El Yaz, an agricultural community that is struggling to make ends meet, as even access to low paying jobs are rare. The community is seeking volunteers like myself to help institute programs that will defend the natural and cultural wealth that has given so much life to the Orosi Valley. I will be a part of a team of volunteers and Costa Ricans that will facilitate environmental education, reforestation, water preservation, preservation of land through land purchase, and various cultural preservation activities. The strategy is to encourage local inhabitants to practice efficient stewardship over the remaining forests. In this way, the local inhabitants can prosper by using the local environment to their economic advantage in a more sustainable way.
The project I will be working on centers around organic farming. This type of activity is incredibly important as Costa Rica now has the highest rate of stomach cancer in the world. Many farmers haven’t been educated properly as to how to use or not use chemicals, so my work will center on organic agriculture, sustainable development education, medical herbs, reforestation, permaculture and other projects which will directly benefit the community.
